Support Local During Coronavirus: Fiesta Café

March 25, 2020

In the greater Champaign County area, local businesses aren't just businesses. Our neighbors, family, and friends are all working to keep things as normal as possible amidst the COVID-19 precautions as outlined by the Governor of Illinois and the Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department. These challenging times serve as a reminder to residents in the greater Champaign County area just how wonderful our local businesses, restaurants, and community truly is. If there's ever a time to embrace #OutsideofOrdinary, it's now.

Fiesta Café

Like most local restaurants, Fiesta Café in Champaign is doing everything in its power to keep to business as usual. According to a Facebook post early in the COVID-19 restaurant regulation changes, their account stated, "it’s our intention to keep all our workers on the payroll funding 100%."

If you keep up with the staff at Fiesta on social media, you know that everyone working at this local favorite aren't just coworkers; they're family. Since 1993, Amy Myers has been a part of the Fiesta Café team. "I am thankful the owner Ron has decided to stay open and allow the ones who want/need to work to get by during this difficult time. He definitely takes care of us and I am forever grateful," Amy says.

Fiesta Café is doing delivery and takeout orders from 11 am - 9 pm on weekdays, and 11 am -10 pm on weekends. So far, the outpouring of support from residents and long-time customers has been tremendous. "I have never seen anything like this before. Champaign-Urbana is an amazing community and it’s nice to see people support each other, and especially the local businesses," Amy tells us.

Staying open means extra precautions. Amy says on top of additional training courses on health department recommendations to fight COVID-19, the restaurant isn't allowing third-party delivery. "We can’t control the quality and what happens to the food after it leaves the premises with Doordash, Uber eats, or Grubhub," Amy states.

With business staying steady the team at Fiesta Café is encouraging fans of their food to continue ordering takeout or delivery during the dine-in restrictions.

HOW TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS

As we see a reduction in business to our area, we continue to encourage the support of our local businesses and the hospitality industry. As of Sunday, March 15, it is state-mandated that bars & restaurants close through March 30. Please note that carry-out and curbside pick-up options are available. We are collecting information on these options and posting them here, but also encourage patrons to follow their favorite spots on social media for updates or call for more information.

We will continue to post updates on our Business Updates and Cancellations page as we receive them, but encourage everyone to take guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the CDC seriously.
