No Tricks, All Treats: Flesor's Candy Kitchen Favorites

October 26, 2020

With Halloween coming up later this week, a lot of us have candy on the mind. At Flesor's Candy Kitchen in Tuscola, candy is an everyday obsession. You might be leaving out popular Halloween favorites this year, but we're fairly certain you'll want to keep these treats to yourself. Before we highlight some favorites at Flesor's, it's well worth hearing about the origins of this Outside of Ordinary stop in our area.

Flesor's Candy Kitchen Origins

Gus Flesor immigrated from Greece in the early 20th-century to what he saw as the perfect town in which to settle. He opened up Flesor's Candy Kitchen and immediately saw success thanks to visitors from all over the region. In 1975, Gus' son Paul closed the business and it seemed as if Flesor's was left to live as a memory. That was until Gus' granddaughters, Anna and Devon, would reopen Flesor's in the same exact building in which it began. If visiting this establishment feels like traveling back in time, there's a good reason for that. The recipes and much of the interior is from the shop's original opening thanks to many pieces, including the original marble soda fountain, found sitting in an antique dealer's warehouse.

With a passion for family, tradition, and delicious treats, it's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu at Flesor's. A few favorites, however, are worth an extra look.

A few favorites stand out thanks to Gus' original recipes and the dedication Anna and Devon, put into their craft. Their English Toffee, for example, uses plenty of butter and just enough chopped walnuts to give it great flavor and texture, crunchy and options for plain, milk, or dark chocolate finishes. If you're especially excited by the family recipes featured at Flesor's, the secret recipe for Devon’s Divine Divinity makes it one of the menus top items. With a snowy, white exterior, and delicious pecan in the center, it's hard to eat one and not immediately crave more. If you're not sure what you want, or simply like a little bit of everything, a deluxe sampler of their multi-flavored Butter Cream treats is a great choice. Homemade fondant is beat to perfection in-house and filled with traditional flavors like chocolate and raspberry as well as more exotic flavors.

Halloween might be all about the candy, but Flesor's has many other treats worthy of repeat visits. While you might be leaving out the typical brands this year for Trick-or-Treaters, keep Flesor's in mind for the coming holidays as gifts, favors, or a treat all for yourself.
